September - 2008 Early morning September 13, 2008 a category 3 Hurricane, Ike, ripped through the Houston/Galveston are with category 3 winds and category 4 storm surge waves. The entire area suffered much property damage, flooding and power outages, some for weeks following the storm. DMS regrets that the Houston area was so severely affected by the hurricane, but as with any storm, reports that there was a silver lining for DMS and their clients. Thanks to DMS’ internet hosting partner, VERICENTER, the online GasPro system was available 100% of the time, during the storm, as well as after the storm. When many businesses were out of commission due to power outages, the VERICENTER located in North Houston, never missed a beat, with an automatic cutover to diesel generator power. The VERICENTER Data Center ran continuously on generators for five (5) days until power was restored. The VERICENTER’s North Data Center is a SAS 70 Type II-Compliant Facility. Frank Pena stated that “The VERICENTER performed flawlessly under such adverse conditions. Our clients were served continuously, and DMS couldn’t be more pleased.”Additionally, the DMS Corporate facility located northwest of Houston, in Hockley, Texas, suffered little to no damage and was only inconvenienced by the power outages. Frank Pena, President of DMS, reports that the DMS Team was full engaged in setting up an alternate DMS site in San Antonio from which to operate. DMS moved quickly to set up the temporary office outside the affected area in San Antonio, to insure that their customers were continually supported. DMS stayed in contact with all clients, but most especially the Houston based clients, many of whom needed special assistance during their own relocations. DMS regrets that the DMS GasPro User Group Conference that was to be held in September was cancelled due to the affects of the storm.
